Types of Folding Brochures

Brochures can be anything from two to 8 or more pages with each panel of the brochure made of 2 pages (front and back). The main thing that you need to remember when creating a brochure is: If there are more than 4 pages (2 panels), MEASUREMENTS ARE IMPORTANT. You can't just take an 8.5x11 page and divide it into even thirds.

Here's why.
When there are 6 (or more) pages, some of those pages have to fold to the INSIDE of the others. If you look at the images below for the 'c'-fold and double gatefold, the green panels fold to the inside. This panel of your design must be narrower than the rest so that when panels are folded, there will be enough free space (gap) inside for the final fold to be made. This 'gap' will vary depending on what type of paper and/or how many inside folds your brochure has.
